What is Hall-effect Technology and the Evolution of Hall-effect Keyboards

Hall effect keyboard is coming back to the public in the recently, actually it is not the new tecnology. If you google it you may find tat the The Hall effect keyboard and switch can dated back to 60 years ago. Also you can see this technology is using in the common place, for example: Ipad protector case.

So what is the Hall-effec and how do it works? Let check it out,

How do Hall Effect work?

The Hall effect is a phenomenon that occurs when a conductor or semiconductor carrying current is placed in a magnetic field. As the current flows through the material, the magnetic field causes the free electrons to be deflected to one side of the conductor, creating a voltage difference across the material. This voltage difference is perpendicular to both the direction of the current and the magnetic field. The Hall effect is commonly used to measure the strength of magnetic fields and to determine the type of charge carriers in a material. It has important applications in devices such as Hall sensors and in understanding the behavior of materials in magnetic fields.

To use this technology in the keyboard,by setting a voltage threshold for each key, the key is considered to be pressed. This is the logic of the magnetic switch implementation.

The construction of a magnetic shaft is very simple. The shaft body is just made up of the shaft center, magnet, Hall sensor, and spring. When the shaft body is pressed, the magnet is close to the Hall sensor and a Hall voltage above the threshold appears, which in turn triggers.

Base on it,What are the advantages of Hall effect?

1.Dynamic Keystroke (DKS): This powerful feature allows you to incorporate up to four different actions within a single keystroke, similar to a macro but without the automation. This provides a level of customization and control that can enhance gameplay and productivity

2. Travel Distance Setting:The keyboard allows you to adjust the travel distance of keys from 0.2-3.7mm, providing a level of customization to suit your typing style and preferences.

3. Rapid Trigger:This feature allows keys to be activated or deactivated based on their travel distance rather than a fixed point, providing more responsive and precise control. This can be particularly beneficial in games that require quick and precise keystrokes. Customizable Trigger Points: Each key's trigger point can be customized to meet your specific needs, and the keyboard is equipped with an automatic calibration function to ensure precision.

What is the expectation of Hall-effect keyboard and magnet-switch development in the future?

Compare to the traditional mechanical keyboard. the hall effect keyboard will have great development on the keyboard body and the software to support the custom setting.

For example, the hall effect keyboard is not recommend to change the switches, although some of the hall-effect keyboard PCB is support hot-swappable.  Each brand keyboard will have factory setting and calibration with different standard. Once the standard set up, people can custom the switch as they link.

By the AI and software calibration, enhance the typing experience to be the true custom keyboard

In 2019 keystone try to launch a AI calibration keyboard through Co-funding, it is a pity that the project didn’t come to success due to many factor. But with the development the OpenAI, this kind of keyboard will go to market soon.

In this year Gamakay will launch the Hall-effect keyboard and it's Magnet switches as well.

Gamakays Silent-Phoenix and Linear Mercury switches

The coming product Gamakay TK75He will be equipped with the Gmakay Slient-phoenix and Linear Mercury Magnet-switch,both build in Hall effect sensor.

The silent-phoenix is developed on the Silent-phoenix mechanical switches, will make the less noise on typing, which is very useful for the office-workers or late-night gammers.

The Linear Mercury Switches

The GamaKay Mercury is a pretty smooth and quiet linear switch at a very competitive price! In the magnet switches version, you will try our the gamakay you will enjoy the smooth typing experience and the the fast response time to help you win the game.

Gamakay's frimware that comes with all Gamakay keyboards. This allows unique keyboard features such as:

  1. Custom DSK Trigger points.
  2. Calibration of the accuracy of trigger points. Ensure that the the Magnet switch under the perfect setting.
  3. Four factory pre-set mode to let you experience the Hall-effect keyboard in no time(Gaming, Fast typing, Comfort, and custom)
Gamakay firmware to support the calibration of the magnet switch, suports four mods of factory pre-set typing mods.

(Comfort is meaning that the trigger point won't be set too sensetive or to slowly)

Overall, Hall effect technology offers unique advantages in keyboard switches, and its future development is expected to bring further customization and enhanced user experiences.
